HOPE FOR HIPPIES
The semester came to a close at the UNAM last Friday with a 60s themed party as a large group of hippie styled students crammed into the ministry apartment to celebrate the end of the semester and to remember where true peace and love come from. Pray for these RUF students from the Bible studies and English group as they stay in touch over the summer months and continue to meet together intermittently. Pray for faith not to fade but to grow, and for students to get into habits that will keep them grounded into the next fall when they return to University City to continue their 5 year pursuit of an UNAM diploma. Pray also for contact with current and new UNAM students that will be coming to the UNAM next year from local churches.
MEETING IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN
The student association where we were members and which allowed RUF to use its space for large group decided to relocate in April due to landlord malfeasance, and the group was forced to finish the semester in the campus quad known as the “Garden of Eden” for its lush growth and many Adams and Eves. Pray for a new, roofed and permanent location for next semester for the group, and for the men and messages that will be preached and the students that will be reached and equipped.
SUMMER WEDDING BELLS
Two RUF couples are getting married this summer – one in the Mexican state of Veracruz and the other in the US state of Maryland. Pray for great beginnings for Sergio and Anne and for Philip and Karina, and for their marriages to be filled with joy and to reflect God’s love for and in his bride.
It is election season in Mexico, and after 12 years of rule by the conservative PAN party and 6 years of growing drug driven violence on the border, it will be an important change. Pray that God will guide and protect Mexico as the populace goes to the ballot box on July 1. The leading candidate is currently the telegenic Enrique Pen?a Nieto from the party which ruled Mexico for 71 years, followed by the socialist candidate who is believed by many to have been cheated out of the presidency 6 years ago, and finally with the first woman presidential candidate from the current ruling party bringing up the rear.
CHURCH PLANT HOLDING PATTERN
In May, MTW suspended the church planting project in San Angel. Please continue to pray for the planter, the core group, and the local mother church, Berith. Pray also for the other plant we are connected with, Redeemer Presbyterian in the Condesa and Roma neighborhoods and it’s pastor Victor Cruz!
