The March update is available – click here to see the one page pdf file. As always, we would love to hear and respond to your questions and comments!
Thanks to all of you for your generous support, especially around Christmas time! We are grateful for your ministry to us, which enables us to minister to students. “Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God every time I remember you.”
The New Semester Begins
We began RUF this semester with a kickoff party at the beginning of January and are now 6 weeks into the Spring semester! Things are going well – we have met many new students, both Christians unconnected with any Christian group on campus and non-Christians interested in finding out about the Bible and our community. Pray for us as we seek to know and serve these students.
The Life of David
This semester we are studying the life of David, a man after God’s own heart. So far, we have looked at David’s rise to power, and how he points us to the need and the reality of the true king, Jesus the Christ. Pray for our Large Group on Tuesdays at 2:30PM. We are in a great place, where thousands of students walk by each day, although it is likely we will need to find a new home next semester. Pray for our guys small group this semester as we study “The Life of a God Made Man.”
English & Pozole
Lara Sullivan is doing a great job helping to lead our English Club this semester, and today one of the students has invited us to visit his home to eat hominy stew! Pozole (poh-ZO-lay) is a classic Mexican dish dating back to pre-hispanic times that tastes like a delicious soup and salad combined. Pray for our English Clubs on Wednesday and Fridays – we have had good turnout, but need more native helpers to meet the demand. We are always open to having folks come down and participate in this part of the ministry, where all you have to do is talk!
Retreat to Camp MTW
Last week a group from RUF at Emory visited Guanajuato to install a 5,000 liter water tank. We hope to use this tank and to take about 25 students for a spiritual retreat during Holy Week, April 16-19, which is our equivalent of Spring Break in the US. Pray for the details of the retreat, which is always a highlight for our group. Pray for good interest and turnout, and that this year will be smoother than last year when we had two vehicles break down (one with a punctured gas tank which we temporarily fixed with chewing gum!).
We have two main needs right now. 1) Peter is $1,300 short on his monthly support. 2) Marco Escalante is coming to Mexico City to plant a church near the campus in July – he needs to raise $3,000 per month for this future flagship church. If you want to learn more about these needs, are interested in giving, or know somebody who might be, please send Peter an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
*For wisdom and skill for Peter as he teaches, trains, and counsels students.
*For Lara as she finishes up her time in Mexico City and returns to the US to being grad school.
*For Ruth as she works on translation.
*For the growth of our student leaders as they serve RUF and work on their majors, family relationships, and friendships.
*For funding and a new location for large group
*For students who are struggling to understand and apply the gospel to their relationships and time commitments, to their failures and successes, to recent family problems, to decisions about the future.
