The LA Times reports that
Mexico City on Tuesday formally put on the books a law allowing same-sex couples to marry and adopt children, with Mayor Marcelo Ebrard rejecting demands he veto the controversial measure.
The law was published in the official government newspaper, and will go into effect in 45 days. It was passed by a comfortable margin by this sprawling capital’s legislature last week.
Mexico City is also the only place in the country that allows abortion on demand.
what about the wealth of the marriage when either or decide to quit and want a divorce what are the rights if a house is owned.
Are you asking about Mexican divorce laws, and how they would apply in a homosexual “marriage”? I would assume they would function in the same way as a traditional marriage, given that they have been awarded the same status before the law in Mexico City. It would be interesting to see whether the law was pushed up to the supreme court if the parties were “married” in Mexico City but were from different locations within Mexico which did not permit the same practice.
My partner and I want to eventually move to Mexico….him retiring, I teaching English..I have all the degrees and certifications I need for it……can we get married in DF on a vacation trip? We dont plan on moving for mabye 5 years but intend to get a FM2 a while before that….can we marry in DF as gringos?
